Combined Events are quite challenging to follow for non-experts. Event the points are calculated using complex mathematic formulas. Order of competitors changes a lot during the two-day event and sometimes it's hard to know who is actually doing good results. To help an average athletics fan to follow combined event competition, there is a new forecasting result service available for Helsinki 2005 World Championships.
Forecasting result service is based on each athlete's best combined event result from last or this year. Service compares that series with actual made results in the WCH competition and gives an estimate on how the athlete in question will finish. Then the service ranks all athletes by forecasted end-result and shows online what is the current estimate on who is going to win and who are competing on medals etc. Abbreviations: DSQ = disqualified DNF = did not finnish NR = no result NH = no height DNS = did not start (means that the athlete cannot continue the decathlon/heptathlon) |
